Taking a tour of interdisciplinary design studio Apparatus’ Los Angeles showroom during the city’s Frieze art week.

Co-founded in 2012 by Gabriel Hendifar and Jeremy Anderson, Apparatus is a New York-based design studio that explores the relationship of lighting, furniture, and objects in their environments. The studio has quickly gained a reputation for beautiful and innovative design, creating pieces with a unique aesthetic. During the Los Angeles Frieze art week, I had the fantastic opportunity to visit the brand’s showroom in Hollywood's emerging art district.

Apparatus creates each piece with a devotion to the rigour of small studio craftsmanship, centring the importance of the human hand in lending soul to an object. Luxurious and tactile materials such as marble, suede, horsehair, lacquer, and porcelain are combined with hand-painted brass in the studio’s dedicated New York factory to create its distinct catalogue of works.

View the video below and take a short tour of the studio’s impressive showroom, creating a hidden oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding streets.
